[Updated June 2025] With support from BGCI and IUCN, Dr Joeri Sergej Strijk has been actively conducting Red List assessments on Fagaceae since 2019, with a special focus on the more than 700 species of Fagaceae in (sub)tropical Asia. Following the successful publication of The Red List of Oaks 2020 and with a Red List grant to ACTG from BGCI in 2024, work is now underway to prepare the first Global IUCN Red List Report for Castanopsis and Lithocarpus, This report will outline the conservation status of over 500 species of endemic Asian trees, outline threats to their existence, highlight ongoing research and make recommendations for their continued survival and conservation management. Currently, final reviews and chapter writing with a representative group of regional collaborators and experts is ongoing. The Report is expected in 2026.
