Flora of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam – Dipterocarpaceae

With just over 50 species, Dipterocarpaceae are markedly less diverse in IndoChina, than in other areas where they reach peak diversity such as Malaysia and Indonesia. In Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, the family edges northward towards the frontier of the subtropical zone, which is expressed not only in fewer species, but also in lower generic diversity. The ongoing project and treatment in preparation by Dr Joeri Sergej Strijk, coordinated by the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle (MNHN) and funded by the Franklinia Foundation, will see a revision and a fully illustrated edition of the previous publication, with new records, conservation assessments and following the latest classification. To extend collections and fill sampling gaps in the region, fieldwork has been carried out in Laos and Vietnam. A completely reworked treatment is slated for end of 2027 and will be released as part of the “Tropical Flora and Fauna Program” of the Museum.
